Services – Remediation, groundworks and RC Frame

Description

This project comprises the redevelopment of a former car dealership and garage for both private residential and commercial use. The residential element includes one, two and three bedroom apartments. The FSL project called upon a number of areas of our expertise, including contaminated land remediation, groundworks and reinforced concrete frames.

As a result of its previous use and sensitive location, soil and groundwater remediation was required which included:

  • Removal of the slab while protecting groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Design, installation and operation of a free phase product removal and groundwater pump and treat system to allow soil remediation and construction platform installation within six weeks.
  • Design, installation and operation of a Multi Phase Extraction  system to achieve defined dissolved phase target for petroleum hydrocarbons over a longer period (up to one year).
  • Tank purging and removal of tanks, pipework and associated infrastructure.
  • Removal of areas soil contamination and backfill with clean material.
  • Validation.

With the remediation completed, the two main blocks of over 100 units then required construction on a very tight timescale and included piled beams and podium slabs. We used our extensive experience in this field to firstly help value engineer the project to help the client with site costs and then produce a programme that allowed all works to be completed within the very tight built sequence. Much of the remediation equipment was deigned to be sacrificial and will continue to be operated during the construction phase.
