Services -Ground Improvement, Groundworks and Reinforced Concrete Frame

Description

FSL were instructed by Bellway Homes to carry out the first phases of the project on Block D and the car park to Block B including the construction of roads and associated drainage, stormwater attenuation and services. The project was secured as a lump sum price.

The development comprises the construction of five reinforced concrete double podium blocks, together with the associated reinforced concrete foundations, floor slabs and associated drainage and external works.

Ground improvement, using cementation, was carried out using a specialist contractor for the road areas, and further load transfer platforms were constructed by FSL to support drainage and other infrastructure. Significant surface water attenuation tanks were also installed to manage surface water run off during severe storm conditions. Roads were constructed to an adoptable standard.

Block D comprises 90 apartments on 5 floors. Work commenced in November 2010, and included pile caps, columns and podium slab, followed by a ground floor slab to the retail unit and all associated drainage and services.

Subsequent floors have now also been built. Each floor is a 200mm thick Omnidec slab, to which FSL places steel and concrete as the build progresses.  Each floor is poured in two parts.  Once the main structure is complete scaffold is struck to enable completion of external works.
