Horton Kirby River Cut, Kent

Client: Fairview Homes

Services – Remediation, construction of river channel

Description

Fairview Homes are developing a former paper mill into a residential development. The existing site contained two culverts taking the flow of the river that past through the site. FSL were awarded the contract to demolish one of the existing culverts and create a new open cut river bed through the site, as required by the planning conditions, whilst maintaining the flow of the existing river through one of the existing culverts.
The new river channel was formed through contaminated soils which were excavated, treated and disposed off site, prior to the creation of reinforced river banks which then allowed the new development within close proximity. The contract included the design and installation of new pedestrian and vehicular bridges over the new river channel. The contract was recently handed over complete with landscaping, new weir, new culvert entrance and trash screen and 500m of new river channel to the developer all to the overall approval of the Environment Agency.
